This summer, I've been making SO many cocktails! It's been so much fun concocting and sharing these drink recipes with you. I must say, I've been holding onto this white moccasin shot recipe for quite some time. It's one of my favorite shots and is so smooth.

I make this shot when I have friends come over and they always beg me for the recipe. It's easy to make, only four ingredients, and tastes heavenly - it's a win win.

What is a Water Moccasin Shot?

The white moccasin shot was named after the water moccasin snake (or cottonmouth snake), perhaps it's because of it's venomous sharp bites.

Don't run away though! These shots are strong but one of the smoothest drinks you'll ever have. In fact, they're SO smooth that you can easily sip them as a cocktail (I've done it several times, especially with a little bit of lemon lime soda).

These will quickly become your favorite shots. If you've never had them before, you have to give these a try!

ingredients needed to make water moccasin shot - whiskey, peach schnapps, triple sec, and sweet and sour mix.

What's in a Water Moccasin Shot?

These shots combine some pretty simple ingredients. All you need are:

  • Whiskey: If you've had this drink at a bar or restaurant, chances are they used crown royal Canadian whiskey, however, I used Jameson because that's what I had on hand. You can use whatever kind of whiskey you like as there are several versions of the water moccasin drink recipe.
  • Peach Schnapps: many call this a peach schnapps cocktail, and it's for good reason - peach schnapps dominates in flavor and makes these shots taste so fruity and light - perfect for a hot summer day.
  • Triple sec: triple sec adds a touch of citrus flavor. It pairs with the peach schnapps SO well.
  • Sweet and Sour Mix: sour mix is a must with these shots to add a little sweetness and mask the strong flavor of the whiskey.

Equipment Needed

  • Cocktail shaker: a cocktail shaker is a great way to ensure your drink is nice and mixed together. If you don't have a cocktail shaker, you can use any cup with a lid or simply stir together with a cocktail stirrer or spoon.
  • Shot Glasses: you can drink these shots in any cup, but to enjoy these as an actual shot, shot glasses are preferred.

How to make a Water Moccasin Shot

  • Combine peach schnapps, whiskey, triple sec, and sweet and sour mix in a cocktail shaker.
  • Add ice and shake for about 10 seconds.
  • Pour into a shot glass and enjoy!

Variations To Try

  • Make a water moccasin shot with pineapple juice for a smooth water moccasin drink that's even more fruity and delicious!
  • Add lemon lime soda in place of sweet and sour mix for a fizzy water moccasin shot!
  • Add a little orange juice to make this drink into a peachy citrusy cocktail!

Substitutions

  • If you don't have sweet and sour mix, you can make your own at home! Sweet and sour mix is simple 1 part lemon juice, 1 part lime juice, and 1 part simple syrup.
  • Crown royal canadian whisky is more commonly used, however, as mentioned before - I used Jameson whiskey. You can use whatever brand of a smooth whiskey you'd like to make this popular shot.

Tips

  • Make these shots ahead of time by mixing together in a cocktail shaker and straining out the ice. Add to the refrigerator and serve when you're ready!
  • Add lemon sugar to the rim of the shot glasses (kind of like what I did with these lemon drop shots). Zest lemon and sugar together and dip the shot glasses simple syrup and then in the sugar. It's SO good.

I made your green tea shots and these were similar in taste but just not as strong. I really liked them, they were smooth and loved the peach schnapps flavor.
