What is a green tea shot?

A green tea shot is a simple whiskey shot invented by Jameson Whiskey that consists of Jameson Irish Whiskey, Peach Schnapps, Sour Mix, and a splash of Lemon Lime Soda. The name comes from the greenish color of the drink as it resembles green tea. Spoiler: there's no actual green tea in this shot.

Green Tea Shot Ingredients

the ingredients used to make green tea shots - whiskey, peach schnapps, lemon lime soda, and sweet and sour mix.

This quick combination of 4 simple ingredients comes together in a total time of 5 minutes and is so easy to make. Enjoy them as a single shot or with a crowd.

If you've ever wondered what's in a green tea shot, see the main ingredients below:

  • Jameson Irish Whiskey: Irish whiskey is made from barley and has a lighter, smoother flavor compared to American whiskey. However, you can use whatever brand of whiskey you'd like.
  • Peach Liqueur: Peach Schnapps is my favorite ingredient - it's what gives these shots their "umph" with all of that peachy flavor. SO good.
  • Sweet and Sour Mix: the sweet and sour mix really works well with the peach liqueur and balances out the sweet flavor with a little tanginess.
  • Lemon-Lime Soda: I used a splash of sprite. It adds a bit of sweetness and a bit of fizz  that's really refreshing.

Substitutions

Missing an ingredients or two but don't want to head to the liquor store? See below for some quick swaps for this cocktail recipe!

  • If you don't have any sweet and sour mix, you can make your own sour mix by using ½ lime (fresh lime juice), a ½ of a lemon (fresh lemon juice), and a 1 ounce of simple syrup or sugar.
  • You can use any popular whiskey you'd like, it doesn't have to be Jameson, American whiskey works too!
  • If you don't have a cocktail shaker, you can use a mason jar or any larger glass with a lid.

How to make Green Tea Shots

That's it! Here's a quick video on how to make green tea shots!

Make Green Tea Shots into a Cocktail!

This green tea shot makes the best cocktail and it's so easy to do with literally zero prep time. Literally prepare the drink as instructed and pour into a cocktail glass and add an additional splash of lemon lime soda to make this shot into a martini or green tea shot cocktail.

Don't forget to garnish with a lime wedge 🙂

Tips

  • This shot is best served cold. I recommend refrigerating the ingredients beforehand or freezing each shot glass for 20 minutes. Although we're using ice in the cocktail shaker, if the ingredients are warm, it'll melt the ice and water down the shots.
  • If you're looking to cut down on the sugar, use diet lemon lime soda or sugar free lemonade instead.
  • To enjoy this drink as a single shot, use a ½ ounce of each of the ingredients.

I really am not a shot person but I made these anyway and they were so good! Good enough to be a good strong cocktail!

  2. 5 stars
These shots are smooth and sweet but not too sweet. I liked them a lot so I made them as a cocktail and that went well too.

  3. 5 stars
Made these shots for a third time and loved them! We didn’t have any sprite so we used lemon juice and they still came out good.
