If you are hosting an event, serve your guests from a pitcher because this is sure to be a crowd-pleaser!

What is a mojito?

Mojitos originated in Havana, Cuba in the 1930s. This classic drink is made with flavors commonly found in Cuba including fresh mint, lime, and sugar.

The fresh mint leaves and lime wedges are muddled at the bottom of the glass or cocktail shaker then shaken with simple syrup and white rum and topped off with club soda.

The flavor is a perfect balance of sweet and tart with a nice fizz from the soda for a refreshing cocktail.

the ingredients to make this mango mojito recipe - white rum, mango nectar, honey, club soda, mint leaves, and limes.

Mango Mojito Ingredients

Make this delicious Mango Mojito with:

  • Honey: I use this instead of simple sugar, as a natural sweetener. It takes less work and adds more flavor.
  • Lime: This adds a bright, citrusy taste to the drink.
  • Mint leaves: This is an essential ingredient but a little goes a long way. A sprig of mint is all that you need, about 6-8 leaves to get the true flavor of the mint!
  • Rum: White rum is standard in mojitos and the best rum for this recipe. In contrast to dark rum, white rum has a lighter taste that better complements the mango. If you don’t like white rum, you can use vodka. It’s not used in a traditional mojito but still tastes great!
  • Mango nectar: A combination of mango pulp and juice.
  • Club soda: For added carbonation.

Equipment

To make this fruity mojito recipe, you’ll need a cocktail shaker, a muddler, a jigger, and a highball glass. A highball glass isn’t mandatory, you can also use your favorite serving glass or a cocktail glass.

How to Make Mango Mojitos

  1. Start by adding lime juice (I prefer freshly squeezed), mint leaves, honey, and mango nectar to a cocktail shaker. Crush with a muddle until juices have rendered. (If you do not have a muddle, you can use the end of a wooden spoon. Definitely don’t skip this step because it meshes the flavors together!)
  2. Then add light rum and ice cubes. Place the cap on top and shake vigorously for about 10-15 seconds, until the cocktail shaker becomes cold. Pour into a tall glass.
  3. Top the mango mixture with club soda and additional ice (optional). Finally, for garnish, enjoy this delicious drink with mint and sliced mango.

How to Video!

Make it into a slushy!

If you’d like to turn this cocktail into a slushy, use about 1 cup of frozen mango chunks and blend in a food processor with the remainder of the ingredients listed in the recipe card!

Tips

  • Avoid muddling the ingredients too much. If you overly smash the mint, it will have a bitter taste.
  • This recipe can be made with mango nectar or mango purée for a fresh mango mojito. Also, if you don’t have limes, you can use fresh lime juice (2 ounces).
  • You can swap out club soda for Sprite.
  • Garnish this mango cocktail with mango chunks and additional mint leaves for the perfect cocktail!
  • For a sweeter cocktail, add an additional tablespoon of honey or simple syrup. If you don’t have either, brown sugar works too, just make sure to shake it long enough for the crystals to dissolve.

Pairing Ideas!

These mojitos are perfeect on their own, however, if you’d like to enjoy them with something good to eat – look no further than these Jamaican Jerk Burgers with Caramelized Pineapples or enjoy as a refreshing cocktail with this Cajun Seafood Boil as a suggestions with a few main dishes.

These would also be delicious with my coconut shrimp! The coconut shrimp with the mango flavors go SO well together!

FAQs

What liquors can I use instead of rum?

If you want to switch up the flavor profile, you can swap out rum for another light liquor. I would suggest a mango mojito with vodka or tequila.

Can I make this drink non-alcoholic?

Yes! If you want a Mango Mojito mocktail, simply omit the liquor and double up on the club soda. Alternatively, you can use 3 oz of soda and 5 oz of mango nectar. Enjoy your virgin mojito!

What are the best fruit mojitos?

While I love this mango version, there are lots of fruity flavors that would be tasty in a mojito. I suggest trying blackberry, blueberry, strawberry, and coconut next!

Substitutions

  • If you don’t have club soda / soda water, you can use seltzer water instead.
  • You can also use mango juice instead of mango nectar if that’s what you have on hand!
