Have you ever had jerk seasoning before? I’ve enjoyed the rich flavors of Jerk Chicken for years and can’t get enough. I went to Jamaica for the first time when I was 4 years old and will never forget the first time I had jerk. The flavor was rich and spicy and bold, to say the least.

This recipe is inspired by my time in Jamaica, along with my Brown Stew Chicken, and it utterly delicious. It’s simple to make, everything comes together in about 30 minutes, and is perfect for your next cookout. I do predict that these Jamaican Jerk Burgers will be the talk of any event!

So don’t miss out on being the star of the show with this recipe 🙂

Jamaican jerk burgers – it’s paradise on a plate

So, when I was coming up with a burger recipe, my mind immediately thought – what if you make a Jamaican Jerk Burger? Maybe add some caramelized pineapples and red onions and throw it all together. Well ya’ll, it worked. It worked out so well that I truly can’t get enough of this flavor combo.

From the sweet caramelized pineapples and red peppers to the spicy burger patty to the refreshing taste of arugula all on a buttery brioche bun – it’s paradise on a plate.

What is jerk seasoning made of?

Jerk seasoning is comprised of a bunch of spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cumin, and smoked paprika. Of course these spices as well as their quantities vary as there are several variations. There is some garlic and onions too. And don’t forget, Jerk also has hot peppers that give it a nice kick and a little sugar to bring it all together.

It’s the perfect formula for that balance of flavor that appeals to all of your taste buds. Sweet, savory, spicy, bold with a tinge of bitterness that plays so well together.

FYI, for these Jamaican Jerk Burgers, I did not make my own jerk seasoning. I used Walkerswood Mild Jerk Seasoning.

How do you make jamaican jerk burgers?

Add ground beef to a bowl and add the jerk seasoning, cilantro, garlic, and smoked paprika. Mix together and form into burger patties. (For these Jamaican Jerk Burgers, I did 1/2 lb patties so feel free to scale up or down as you please)

Slice up a red onion and a pineapple and set aside. Fry up the burger patties to your desired doneness and then saute the red onions. Coat the pineapples in cinnamon and then saute those for about 5 minutes, until they’ve blackened a bit on more sides. Then assemble your burger.

Add pineapple, the burger patty, red onions, arugula and a little mayo to a brioche bun. Then you’re done and can eat up!

  • 2 lbs Ground Beef (80/20)
  • 3 tbsps Jerk Seasoning
  • 1 tbsp Smoked Paprika
  • 3 tbsps Cilantro, chopped
  • 4 cloves Garlic, diced
  • Salt and Pepper, to taste
  • 3-4 Pineapple Slices
  • 1 tbsp Cinnamon
  • 1 Red Onion, sliced
  • Arugula, for topping
  • 2 tbsps Mayonnaise
  • 4-5 slices Colby Jack Cheese
  • 4 Brioche Buns
  • Olive Oil

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, jerk seasoning, smoked paprika, cilantro, garlic, and pepper. Mix together and form beef into burger patties then sprinkle with salt. (I made 4 half pound burger patties but feel free to scale up or down on the size)
  • Slice a red onion. Set aside. Slice a pineapple to make 4-5 slices and dust each slice with cinnamon. Set aside.
  • Heat olive oil in a skillet and add burger patties. Cook until desired doneness and remove from skillet. Add red onions and saute for about 5 minutes, until onions begin to soften and caramelize. Remove and side aside.
  • Add pineapples to the skillet and cook on each side for 4-5 minutes, until slightly blackened on each side.
  • Cut a brioche bun in half and spread mayo onto both slices. Assemble burger by adding the grilled pineapple on the bottom, then the burger patty, colby jack cheese, red onions and arugula.
