Ok so picture this – it’s a crisp autumn afternoon, and you’re gathering with friends or family. You decide to create a fall charcuterie board and come across my blog. Know what that means? It’s time to have some fun! I’m going to show you how to recreate the most beautiful yet easy Fall appetizer!
Grab a beautiful wooden board or platter—something that will showcase all the vibrant colors of fall. Begin with a variety of cheeses: think creamy brie, sharp cheddar, and a rich blue cheese. Add some slices of spiced salami or prosciutto for that savory kick.
Now, let’s bring in the fall flair! Include roasted pumpkin seeds and candied pecans for crunch, and thin apple slices drizzled with honey for sweetness. A handful of dried cranberries or figs adds a lovely burst of flavor and color. Don’t forget about seasonal veggies like baby carrots and roasted butternut squash—these will add a fresh, earthy note.
For that extra touch, incorporate some fun garnishes! Fresh rosemary or sage sprigs can create a beautiful aroma, while tiny pumpkins or gourds scattered around make the board festive. And of course, serve it all with a selection of crackers, breadsticks, or even some warm, crusty bread.

What is a charcuterie board?
They’re just my favorite thing to make when I’m craving a girl dinner! A charcuterie board is a board filled with cured meats like salami, prosciutto, ham, etc. Very often you’ll also find different types of cheeses, jams, dried fruits, and breads on a good charcuterie board. The term charcuterie board is a French term that comes from two words – “chair” which means flesh and “cuit” which means cooked.
With this gorgeous fall charcuterie board, we’re using seasonal flavors, mini pumpkins, maple cookies, and delicious meats for a nice mix of sweet and savory flavors.
What To Put On A Fall Charcuterie Board

Building an epic charcuterie board is way easier than you think and it starts with the right meats and cheeses! The meat and cheese bring the savory flavor to the board and add a nice aesthetic flair, especially rolled up, ruffled, or sliced. f you do this and have a variety of shapes and sizes then you will have a professional-looking board. Here are the meats and cheeses that I used:
Meats and Cheeses
My favorite cured meats are:
- Prosciutto
- Genoa Salami
- Mortadella
- Chorizo
These are all easy to find at your local grocery store. Be sure to buy quality meats and if you’re having hard time finding meats that you like, you can opt for your favorite deli meats instead. For cheeses, a good mix of hard cheese and soft cheeses like:
- Cheddar Cheese
- Parmesan
- Goat Cheese
- Brie
Pro tip: use a pumpkin or apple cookie cutter to cut cute shapes into the cheese to make this a festive board. Don’t forget to serve with a cheese knife!
Fruits and Nuts
One of my favorite things to eat this time of year are all of the seasonal produce. This includes:
- Grapes
- Sliced Apples
- Pears
- Figs
- Berries in season
- Persimmons
Don’t forget about dried fruits! Dates, prunes, raisins, dried cranberries, and dried apricots are all great options too! I also like to use cranberries for garnish, especially during the holiday season. They don’t have the best flavor when raw, but they’re a really pretty garnish on a fall snack board!
For nuts, you can use what you’d like. My go tos are pistachios, candied pecans, or walnuts.

Breads, Cookies, and Crackers
Breads: Keep it classic and use a sliced and toast baguette, olive bread, or sourdough bread. To spice things up a bit, make my cinnamon raisin sourdough bread or pumpkin bread with cream cheese frosting – slice and cut into cute shapes and use the frosting as a dip!
Cookies: This is where you can get creative and use your favorite cookies! For me, maple cookies, pumpkin pie spice cookies, chai cookies are essential for an autumn charcuterie board! They’re sweet and oh so cozy! It’s a must. Cinnamon cookies or Biscoff Butter cookies are also great options too.
Cracker options: The key here is to choose crackers that’ll go well with the meats and dips that you use. Rosemary sea salt crackers, cheese crackers, any rustic crackers that you can find – especially those pumpkin cranberry crisps from Trader Joe’s! I also love any butter crackers, even Ritz crackers work well here.
Dips and Jams
Honey, homemade apple butter, pumpkin butter, fig jam, and maple syrup are my favorites! I also like to use my cream cheese fruit dip to dip the fresh fruit into. The sweet flavor with the savory salami is the best combination. Add the dips to small bowls for beautiful presentation.
How to make the Perfect Fall Board

In just a few simple steps, you’ll have the perfect fall cheese board!
- Roll/slice the meats and cheeses. Arrange on the charcuterie board, spacing them out.
- Fill in the spaces with fruits and nuts.
- Place the dips you’re using into small bowls and add to the bowl.
- Add bread, cookies, and crackers in the spaces remaining. Garnish with mini pumpkins and fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme.
How to Serve
To complement a fall charcuterie board, you’ll want to serve with warm, hearty side dishes and beverages that enhance the seasonal flavors. Think heirloom tomato soup, roasted red pepper and gouda soup, or tuscan tortellini soup.
Use the bread from the board to sop up the soup! Sip on some crockpot hot chocolate too while you’re at it! A small side salad with fall ingredients like a burrata arugula salad or fig and burrata salad also pair perfectly!
For beverages, spiced drinks are a must. Offer mulled wine or spiced apple cider, which both pair well with the sweet and savory flavors on the board. A seasonal cocktail like Autumn Sangria or Creamy Espresso Martini will seal the deal! For non-alcoholic options, serve spiced chai or herbal teas, as well as sparkling water infused with pomegranate or cranberries.
Charcuterie Board Tips
- You want a variety of textures so be sure to have a nice mix of hard, soft, and crunchy items!
- Follow that 3-3-3-3 rule: This means to pick 3 meats, 3 cheeses, 3 accoutrements, and 3 fruits for a balanced and aesthetically pleasing board.
- Don’t place the same foods next to each other. Break up the ingredients by scattering them about the board. For ex. place meats next to the cheese then add fruit and nuts etc.
Recipe FAQs
The 3-3-3 rule for a charcuterie board refers to selecting three types of cheese, three types of meats, and three types of accompaniments (like crackers, fruits, or nuts). This rule ensures variety and balance in flavor, texture, and appearance. It’s a simple guideline to help create a well-rounded and visually appealing charcuterie spread.
When assembling a charcuterie board:
– Avoid overcrowding the board, as it can make it look cluttered and unappetizing. – Steer clear of overly pungent cheeses that might overpower other flavors unless your guests specifically enjoy them.
– Refrain from using too many similar textures, like all soft cheeses or meats, to keep the board interesting.
– Also, avoid adding fruits or items that spoil quickly.
– Don’t forget to offer enough serving utensils to prevent cross-contamination of flavors.
Yes, it’s common to eat charcuterie with your fingers, especially when it comes to items like sliced meats, cheeses, and crackers. However, using small utensils or toothpicks can help with more delicate items and keeps the board clean.
Yes, food is typically placed directly on a charcuterie board. However, for items like dips, wet foods, or particularly messy cheeses, small bowls or ramekins can be used to keep the board tidy.
