That’s where this Fall harvest sangria comes in. It combines apple cider with fresh apples, oranges, cranberries, and a little cinnamon for a nice kick. Then we add grand marnier, and apple butter for extra fall flavor!
This sangria recipe is the autumn version of my white sangria. The combination of crisp apples and tangy orange slices creates a fruity base, perfectly complemented by the tartness of cranberries. Autumn Sangria Ingredients

(See the recipe card at the bottom of this post for full information on ingredients and quantities)
- Spices – whole Cinnamon sticks add a warm, aromatic depth to this delicious cocktail, perfectly complementing the fall fruits.
- Apple Butter – This provides a rich, concentrated apple flavor and a hint of sweetness that enhances the overall taste.
- Fresh Fruit – We use seasonal fruits like honeycrisp apples, oranges, and cranberries for their fresh, crisp textures and natural sweetness. These fruits really showcase the glory of autumn.
- White Wine – Use your favorite white wine; Pinot Grigio works great as it offers a light, crisp base that doesn’t overpower the other flavors. Other dry white wines like sauvignon blanc, riesling, and chardonnay are good options too. Keep in mind, it doesn’t have to be an expensive bottle, just something you enjoy.
- Apple Cider – Sweet, spiced, with concentrated apple flavor, this enhances the fruity component of this fall sangria.
- Grand Marnier – This French liqueur adds a hint of citrusy sweetness and a touch of sophistication, elevating the overall flavor profile of the sangria.
- Ginger Beer – The ginger flavor complements the other spices and it adds a bubbly fizz to the drink too. If you don’t have ginger beer, you can use club soda or ginger ale instead.
- Fresh Rosemary or Mint – adding a herbal component really enhances that delicious Fall flavor.
Substitutions
Spirits: Use bourbon, brandy, or Triple Sec instead of Grand Marnier to vary the flavor profile and add different layers of warmth and citrus notes. I love mixing bourbon and apple, just check out my Whiskey Apple Cider Cocktail!
Wine: Use rose or red wine instead of white – my favorite wine is cabernet sauvignon or pinot noir.
Fruits: Substitute or add plums and pomegranate seeds for a juicy, slightly tart twist that enhances the autumnal feel of the sangria.
Spices: Add a pinch of nutmeg or a few whole cloves along with the cinnamon sticks and star anise for additional warm, spiced notes.
Sweetener – for a sweeter sangria, you can add simple syrup, maple syrup, or even my homemade peach syrup!
How to Make Fall Sangria

- In a large pitcher, combine all of the sangria ingredients, except the ginger beer. Place into the refrigerator to chill. When you’re ready to serve, add ginger beer and stir together.
Pro Tips
- Make sure your fruit is ripe but not too soft. Ripe fruits will add the best flavor and texture to the sangria, but overly soft fruits can become mushy and break down too much in the drink.
- Let the autumn sangria chill in the fridge for at least 1 hour. This allows the flavors to meld together and the spices to infuse properly.
- Serve fresh. Add the ginger beer just before serving to keep it fizzy and refreshing
- Keep it cool. Use frozen fruits or make ice cubes from apple cider to keep the sangria cool without diluting it.
What to Serve with Autumn Sangria
Autumn sangria pairs wonderfully with a variety of seasonal dishes. Consider serving it alongside my Halloween Charcuterie Board filled with cheeses, cured meats, candies, and more.
It also complements savory appetizers like Baked Brie with Jam, Pumpkin Muffins, Pear and Gorgonzola Puff Pastry. For a heartier option, try pairing it with roasted red pepper soup with gouda, short rib bolognese, or dutch oven chili!
FAQ
Autumn sangria typically has a rich, golden hue or a deep red color, depending on whether you use white or red wine. The selected fruits can also influence the exact shade.
It is a common belief that the term sangria derives from the Spanish word “sangre” which means blood. Traditional sangria has a deep red hue so the correlation makes sense.
No. Sangria is a wine-based cocktail that includes fruits, juices, and other spirits like Grand Marnier.
Serve sangria cold. Chilling the sangria allows the flavors to meld together and makes it a refreshing drink, especially when served with ginger beer just before serving.
