There are a few summer cocktails that I consider staples – a mint julep, a bahama mama, bourbon smash, and this peach bourbon cocktail. It combines simple ingredients like sweet bourbon, peaches, and maple syrup for the most sweet and cozy summer drink.
The flavor reminds me of a fresh peach cobbler, fresh out of the oven at first sip. If you’re a bourbon lover
It has all of the summer charm mixed with the cozy flavors of cinnamon and maple – making it the perfect end of summer treat.
Cocktail Ingredients
(Full list of ingredients and quantities in the recipe card)
- Fresh peaches – for the best flavor, use ripe peaches. When they’re out of season, you can use canned but during the summer months, head to the grocery store and grab those sweet juicy, in season peaches! Use leftover peaches to make my peach lemonade next!
- Bourbon Whiskey – I like to use woodford reserve or maker’s mark. Simply use your favorite whiskey.
- Peach Schnapps – peach schnapps ups that peach flavor. You can also use some of my homemade peach syrup if you have any on hand.
- Maple syrup – the maple flavor adds a coziness to the drink that I love! If you don’t have any maple syrup, you can use honey, white sugar, or brown sugar.
- Fresh lemon juice – the bright citrus flavor of lemon brings everything together!
- Dash cinnamon – the addition of cinnamon gives this drink peach cobbler vibes. I love it!
- Soda water – you can also use ginger beer or ginger ale to add more flavor here!
Pro tip: Garnish with mint leaves or fresh basil for a beautiful presentation!
Variations

- Turn this drink into a bourbon peach smash cocktail by adding all of the ingredients (except the soda water) into a cocktail shaker or mason jar. Mash with a muddler until everything is juicy, then add ice, shake, and pour in the club soda.
- Make it into a frozen slushy drink by adding ice cubes and blending in the food processor.
- Incorporate seasonal fruits by swapping out the peaches for whatever is in season like pears, mangos, pineapples etc. Seasonal ingredients are freshest in season so use what nature gave you!
- Add a dash of bitters for an additional depth of flavor.

Tips for the Perfect Cocktail
- Use fresh ingredients when you can – i.e. fresh ripe peaches, fresh lemon juice, etc.
- Taste as you go. If you like a less sweet drink, cut the maple syrup in half; conversely, if you like a sweet drink, add more!
- Pick a good bourbon! The bourbon is a key player in this cocktail, so choose one that you enjoy sipping on its own. A bourbon with caramel and vanilla notes complements the peach flavor beautifully.
Recipe FAQs
Yes, peach pairs wonderfully with bourbon, as the fruit’s natural sweetness and juiciness complement the rich, smoky, and slightly spicy notes of the bourbon. This combination is popular in cocktails like the Peach Bourbon Smash, where the flavors blend harmoniously for a refreshing drink.
Peaches pair well with spirits like bourbon, rum, and vodka, which enhance their natural sweetness and juicy flavor. Bourbon complements the peach’s rich, warm notes, while rum adds a tropical twist. Vodka, being more neutral, allows the peach’s flavor to shine, making it ideal for light, refreshing cocktails.
Most people enjoy bourbon with mixers like cola, ginger ale, or water, which complement its rich, smoky flavors. It’s also commonly paired with ice (on the rocks) or in classic cocktails like the Old Fashioned or Manhattan.
