Cookies and Cream Ice Cream Ingredients

ingredients to make oreo ice cream - heavy cream, sweetened condensed milk, oreo cookies, vanilla extract, and sweetened condensed milk.

Just when you thought it didn't get any better, I need to mention that this is a 5 ingredient oreo ice cream.

  • Heavy whipping cream: For a creamy texture, this ingredient is a must! Use cold heavy cream to make sure you get a light yet creamy ice cream.
  • Sweetened condensed milk: This thickens the ice cream and adds sweetness.
  • Vanilla extract: The sweet vanilla actually complements the cocoa flavor of the Oreos.
  • Vanilla Extract: be sure to use a quality vanilla extract to get the best flavor.
  • Marshmallow fluff: ok, not your traditional ingredient for no churn ice cream, BUT it really gives this oreo ice cream that true cookies and cream flavor, enhancing that iconic oreo taste. One could call it a perfect combination. You have to try it!
  • Oreo Cookies: Crush the cookies before adding them to the mixture. You can use regular oreos or double stuffed if you're looking for that

Variations & Add-Ins

  • Gluten-free: Instead of using the regular variety, swap them out for gluten-free Oreos.
  • Oreo Mint Chocolate Chip: Add mint extract and chocolate chips to the mixture for a refreshing spin on this frozen snack.
  • Candy Bars: You can chop up your favorite chocolate candies and add them to the ice cream but limit the amount you include. Adding more than 1 cup could change the texture of the ice cream.
  • Swirl: A drizzle of caramel would elevate this dessert. Other options include chocolate, butterscotch, and peanut butter.

Tips for Making Ice Cream from Scratch

  • The next time you have a pack of Oreos, save a sleeve for some ice cream. You only need 10 for this recipe! In order to prevent them from going stale, place them in the freezer in an airtight Ziploc bag.
  • Use quality ingredients. There are only a few things on the list so make sure you use the good stuff for the best Oreo ice cream.
  • Do not skimp on the full-fat ingredients. That fat in the cream and milk is what gets us the creamy consistency we all love in our ice cream. Now is the time to treat yourself!
  • Whip the heavy cream until frothy peaks form so the ice cream becomes super creamy and light.
  • If you don't have an ice cream storage container, you can use a loaf pan. Simply line with parchment paper and cover with plastic wrap and place in the freezer. Airtight containers are best as they'll last longer, but this ice cream is so good, that it'll be gone before you know it!

Storing Leftovers

Keep leftover Oreo Ice Cream stored in the freezer-safe airtight container you initially stored it in. The ice cream will stay fresh in the freezer for up to 2 months. If kept longer than that, the ice cream may begin to crystalize.

Be sure to store the ice cream towards the back of the freezer instead of the front of the freezer door. Every time you open the freezer, warm air comes in. So to prevent that warm air from reaching your ice cream, store it as far back as possible.

FAQs

What type of Oreos should I use for this recipe?

I chose classic Oreos but you can use whatever kind you like. Just keep in mind that it may change the flavor or consistency.

How do you crush Oreos for ice cream?

If you don't have a food processor, you can place the Oreos in a large Ziploc and crush them with a rolling pin.

Why is my no-churn ice cream icy?

If ice crystals form on top of your ice cream, it was probably frozen for too long initially (6-8 hours is the recommended freezing time).
