The vibrant blue cookies are as delicious as they are pretty! Get out your blue food coloring and put on "C is for cookie" (my son's favorite song) and let's make these blue monster cookies!

If you're a cookie monster lover like me, you have to try my Cookie Monster Ice Cream! It's such a crowd pleaser!

These Cookie Monster Cookies are inspired by the viral recipe from TikTok but I added my own spin! The famous cookie monster cookies are thick, with an irresistibly chewy cookie-filled center.

It is also a sweet nod to one of the most popular Sesame Street characters. The idea behind these monstrous cookies is the more cookies the better so if you have a sweet tooth or are prepping for birthday parties, you have to try this!

Of note, this cookie monster cookies recipe makes some pretty big cookies, akin to delicious bakery style cookies. They're ideal for bake sales and the blue color makes them so much fun!

  • Unsalted Butter: Enriches the flavor and ensures the cookies are tender. Use cold butter so the cookie dough is easier to mold.
  • Brown sugar and Sugar: This ingredient adds moisture.
  • Vanilla extract: This enhances the flavor and complements the cookie add-ins.
  • Eggs: This binds together the ingredients and results in fluffy cookies.
  • Blue gel food coloring: This flavorless addition gets you that famous Cookie monster blue hue. Add more or less, depending on the desired color.
  • All-purpose Flour
  • Baking soda and baking powder: This gives the cookies a nice lift.
  • Kosher salt: To balance out the sweetness.
  • White chocolate chips: For added sweetness, I included these. I used mini white chocolate chips but you can also use mini m&m, semi-sweet chocolate chips, chocolate chunks - the kinds of chocolate chips you use is up to you!
  • Chocolate chip cookies: Use a crunchy cookie, like Chips Ahoy cookies for best results. For a smaller cookie, you can use mini chips ahoy.
  • Oreo cookies: chocolate cookie sandwiches are the star of this dish.

Start by preheating the oven to 350 degrees F. Then add parchment paper or a silicone mat to a baking sheet.

Make the chocolate chip cookie dough. Add cold butter to the bowl of a stand mixer with the paddle attachment. Start on low speed and beat butter until smooth, about 3 minutes, then pour in brown sugar. Continue to beat together for another 2 minutes.

Add vanilla extract and eggs, one at a time and then add blue food coloring.

In a separate large bowl, whisk together dry ingredients - flour, baking powder, baking soda, and kosher salt.

Pour flour mixture into the wet ingredients and mix until just combined. Fold in white chocolate chips.

Scoop out ¼ cup of blue dough and flatten in your hand. Place an oreo cookie into the dough and then add a chocolate chip cookie on top.

Mold the cookie dough around the cookies, ensuring that none of the cookies are sticking out. Place oreo cookie crumbles and cookie pieces on top.

Finally, allow the Cookie Monster Cookies to cool on a wire rack for at least 20 minutes.

After that, place cookies on the cookie sheet and refrigerate for 20 minutes.

Only bake 3-4 cookies at a time as these are large cookies.

Bake in the oven for 14 minutes, until the edges are crisp. Be mindful of bake time - it's important not to overbake your cookies.

COOKIES WILL SPREAD. Use a cup and place it on top of the baked cookies and swivel in a circle to shape the cookie into a perfect circle.

Helpful Tips

  • Do not overmix the dough because you will end up with tough, flat cookies.
  • Do not use room temperature butter for this recipe, it will cause the cookies to spread too much in the oven. The cookies will spread, however, room temperature will cause them to spread too much.
  • To prevent the Oreos and chocolate chips from drying out, ensure the cookie dough is completely covering both cookies.
  • For added fun, add edible googly eyes to the dough just before baking.
  • For the best cookies, I recommend using a stand mixer. You can use an electric mixer for this recipe, however, the batter will become very thick so keep this in mind.
  • I recommend using royal blue gel food coloring from Wilton, it's what gives the cookies their vibrant blue hue.
