This easy recipe for copycat Dunkaroo dip is the homemade version of your favorite snacks from the 90s / early 2000s. It's a nostalgic treat that your whole family will love! Your kids can even help you make it - that’s how simple it is!
The combination of Cool Whip and vanilla frosting makes the perfect fluffy vanilla dip - plus the crunch of rainbow sprinkles makes this funfetti cake dip irresistible.
Perfect for your birthday parties, get togethers, packing in your kids lunch box for a school snack, or even just casual snacking, this easy 4 ingredient dip will have everyone coming back for more! No one can resist this take on their favorite childhood snacks!
If you’re a fan of the popular snack - this one's for you!
Funfetti Cake Mix - You can use any funfetti cake mix that you want; this is what gives the dip the delicious dunkaroo flavor. Funfetti cake mix is so versatile! Be sure to try out my Funfetti Cupcakes!
Cool Whip - I prefer the extra creamy cool whip, but if you cannot find it, regular will work just as well. Make sure that your cool whip is thawed before mixing. (Try using extra creamy cool whip for a super rich dip!)
Vanilla Yogurt or Vanilla Frosting - I prefer to use vanilla yogurt (not vanilla greek yogurt) or vanilla frosting! If you only have plain yogurt on hand, adding a few drops of vanilla extract will do the trick.
Sprinkles - You can use any color sprinkles that you’d like. Opt for rainbow sprinkles if you want the feel of the original Dunkaroo icing. Keep in mind the cake mix already contains rainbow sprinkles, but I love to add more!
This is one of the easiest dips I have ever made, but it is also one of the most delicious! Here's how to make this easy dessert dip:
Start by heat treating the cake mix to get rid of any harmful bacteria. Microwave the cake mix in 30-second increments 1-2 times or bake in the oven at 350 degrees F for 5 minutes. For the oven option, spread the mix onto a baking sheet and bake. It may become a bit melty, this is OK.
Then mix together the box of funfetti cake mix, icing or yogurt, vanilla extract, and cool whip in a large mixing bowl. I recommend mixing with an electric mixer for best results, but a large spoon works too!
Then fold in your favorite sprinkles.
Cover the mix with plastic wrap / cling wrap and let it chill in the refrigerator for around 30 minutes.
Last but not least, your dip is ready to serve! Spoon mixture into your favorite serving dish and top with extra sprinkles. Feel free to get creative and add more toppings if you'd like! I recommend trying chocolate chips or mixing the dip in with ice cream.

You can store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days in the refrigerator. You can also freeze in an airtight container for up to 3 months so that this classic dunkaroo cake batter dip can be enjoyed anytime!
If you're concerned about harmful bacteria from the raw flour, you can absolutely heat treat the cake mix. Simply preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and spread the box of cake mix onto a baking sheet. Bake for 5 minutes and you'll be ready to make your cake mix dip in no time! Of note, the mix may become a bit melty/sticky. Use your best judgment.
Of course! This dip can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week. Cover it with plastic wrap or throw it into an airtight container before putting it in the refrigerator. You can even put small amounts in a container in your kid’s (and your) lunches!
You can! Be sure to store it in an airtight container, which can stay in your freezer for up to 3 months! When you’re ready to use it, let it thaw overnight in the fridge, and then serve! Do not microwave it!
This is 100% up to you! You could use rainbow sprinkles or even solid color sprinkles. I’ve used only pink before when I brought this to a baby shower! It was a hit! Remember that the Funfetti dip will already have some rainbow sprinkles in the mix, but you could always use vanilla cake mix too.
It may be because you put the sprinkles in while mixing. I recommend leaving the sprinkles out until the end. Once you’re done creating the base of your dip, I would add the sprinkles. Make sure to fold them in with a spatula - not a hand mixer!
