Ingredients

ingredients to make chocolate chip banana bread - all purpose flour, baking soda, kosher salt, oil, butter, sour cream, bananas, eggs, brown sugar, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, melted butter. and chocolate chips.

This easy chocolate chip banana bread comes together with just a few simple ingredients.

  • Bananas - Now is the time to let your mushy, brown super ripe bananas shine! Overripe bananas are the best bananas because provide they have great flavor and mash easily. I like to keep a few small chunks in for some added texture when I mash the bananas.
  • Butter - Make sure the butter is melted so it blends better with the flour. You can use unsalted butter or salted butter as per your preference.
  • Vegetable oil - the helps to keep this a super moist chocolate chip banana bread. You can use canola oil, coconut oil, or even olive oil!
  • Sugar - I use a blend of brown sugar and white sugar.
  • Sour cream - Balance out the sweetness and add some extra moisture with this. You can also use greek yogurt or full fat regular yogurt in its place.
  • Vanilla extract - Bring out those warm flavors with a teaspoon vanilla extract. It adds a subtle caramel-like flavor that goes so well with those ripe bananas.
  • Eggs, all purpose flour and baking soda - Standard stuff for baking.
  • Spices - I used a ½ tsp of cinnamon and a ⅛ tsp of nutmeg to give this banana bread a little flavor. It's what makes this such a great recipe!
  • Dark chocolate chip chips - Elevate your banana bread with chocolate chips. You can also use extra chocolate chips, add chocolate chunks, or use semi-sweet chocolate chips on top of the bread for
  • Kosher salt - to bring all of the flavors together!

How to Quickly Ripen Bananas

Are your bananas not ripe enough? You can place bananas in a brown paper bag overnight to block oxygen and speed up the ripening process. If you need ripe bananas sooner, pierce them with a fork and place in the microwave for about a minute. Watch them closely.

You can also roast bananas in the oven on a baking sheet with the banana peel on. Place the bananas into the oven on the top rack preheated to 300 degrees F. Let them cook for 15-30 minutes, until the peels are black all the way around. Let them cool, remove the banana peels, and mash the bananas to make this chocolatey banana bread.

Tips for the Best Banana Chocolate Chip Bread

  • Use room temperature ingredients. The eggs, sour cream, and bananas should be at room temperature for the batter to come together without separating.
  • Do not overmix the batter. Mix only until the wet ingredients and dry ingredients are just combined.
  • Avoid over baking so the banana chocolate chip bread doesn't become dry. Around 1 hour and 5 minutes, check the bread by poking the center of the banana bread with a toothpick. If the toothpick comes out clean, the bread is finished baking. If a little bit of batter is on the toothpick, let it bake for another 5 minutes.
  • Having this after dinner? Serve with a side of ice cream (coffee ice cream if you really want to indulge your sweet tooth).
  • Use a kitchen scale to measure your ingredients! This will provide the best results for this easy recipe.
