Equipment

  • 9x5 loaf pan
  • hand mixer
  • Large Mixing Bowl

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp Salted Butter (melted)
  • ¼ cup Vegetable Oil
  • ¾ cup Brown sugar
  • ¼ cup Sugar
  • 2 Large Eggs (room temperature)
  • cup Sour cream (room temperature)
  • 1 ½ tsp Vanilla extract
  • 3 Bananas (ripe and soft)
  • 2 cups Flour
  • ½ tsp Cinnamon
  • tsp Nutmeg
  • 1 ¼ tsp Baking Soda
  • ½ tsp Kosher Salt
  • 1 cup Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips additional for topping

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F. Spray a 9x5 baking pan with nonstick baking spray and set aside.
  • Using a hand mixer, mix together melted butter, oil, brown sugar, and sugar until mixture is smooth, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Then add eggs, one at a time, making sure that each egg is fully incorporated prior to adding the next. Add sour cream and vanilla extract and mix until all ingredients are fully incorporated. Then add bananas and use electric mixer to incorporate the bananas into the batter.
  • Add flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, baking soda, and kosher salt. Mix together until just combined. Then add chocolate chips.
  • Add batter to the prepared baking pan and sprinkle with additional chocolate if desired. Bake for 1 hour and 5 minutes.

Notes

Tips
  • Use room temperature ingredients. The eggs, sour cream, and bananas should be at room temperature for the batter to come together without separating.
  • Do not overmix the batter. Mix only until the wet ingredients and dry ingredients are just combined.
  • Avoid over baking so the banana chocolate chip bread doesn't become dry. Around 1 hour and 5 minutes, check the bread by poking the center of the banana bread with a toothpick. If the toothpick comes out clean, the bread is finished baking. If a little bit of batter is on the toothpick, let it bake for another 5 minutes.
  • Having this after dinner? Serve with a side of ice cream (coffee ice cream if you really want to indulge your sweet tooth).
  • Use a kitchen scale to measure your ingredients! This will provide the best results for this easy recipe.
Variations and Substitutions
Customise this homemade banana bread to your liking with the following tips:
  • Gluten-free - Use a 1-to-1 gluten-free flour instead of all-purpose.
  • Nuts - Walnuts or pecan would taste amazing with gooey chocolate morsels. It would also balance out the spices.
  • Chocolate chips - You can use whatever kind of chocolate you prefer. I used dark chocolate but you can use semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips instead.
  • Add a little peanut butter for extra flavor!
  • Turn this traditional banana bread up a notch by adding brown butter for extra flavor.
