Fresh summer peaches meets simple syrup with this delicious peach syrup! This is a delicious recipe takes ripe, juicy peaches and turns it into a fruit, rich syrup that’s perfect for both sweet and savory recipes alike!

Made by simmering fresh peaches with brown sugar, water, and a splash of lemon juice, this syrup offers a balance of sweet and subtle tartness. The brown sugar adds a rich, caramel-like depth that enhances the natural sweetness of the peaches, while the lemon juice provides a bright, refreshing contrast.

This homemade peach syrup recipe can be use in so many different ways, especially in cocktails like my peach bourbon cocktail! In beverages, peach syrup adds a light fruity note, transforming ordinary iced tea, lemonade, or cocktails into something special.

Drizzle it over sweet cream pancakes, waffles, or ice cream for a sweet, fruity topping that elevates your breakfast or dessert. It’s also amazing in baking, adding moisture and a hint of peach flavor to cakes and muffins.

Peach Syrup Ingredients

  • Fresh Peaches – use the best peaches you can find! Ripe peaches have the most juice and the peach juice is what’s gonna impart all of the flavor into the homemade syrup.
  • Brown Sugar – you can use granulated sugar, but brown sugar adds lovely deep caramel notes that pair so well with the peaches and really enhances the peach flavor.
  • Water – is the base of the simple syrup recipe. The sugar dissolves in the water to create the syrup.
  • Lemon Juice – lemons are a flavor enhancer! The juice from the lemon brightens the flavor and brings out the peach flavor!

How To Make Peach Syrup

  • Rinse the peaches and thinly slice them. Be sure to remove the pit. Don’t worry about peeling the skin.
  • Add water, brown sugar, and sliced peaches to a medium saucepan. Whisk together until the sugar dissolves and bring to a boil over medium heat and boil for 15 minutes.
  • At the 15 minute mark, mash the peaches with a potato masher or fork. Continue to boil for another 20-30 minutes, until the syrup reduces and thicken.

  • Use a fine-mesh strainer to strain into a heat safe container. Allow the syrup to cool to room temperature (it will thicken as it cools). (Pro tip: use the cooked peaches on top of pancakes or french toast or puree it and spread on toast with butter. It’s SO good!)

Recipe Variations

For a clear peach syrup – do not mash the peaches. Make the syrup as instructed then and just strain into a heat safe container with a fine mesh strainer.

For peach sauce – use an immersion blender once you’re finished cooking the sauce. You can also simply add to a blender and blend until smooth. It’ll thicken into a lovely peach sauce (perfect on top of a scoop of vanilla ice cream – so so good)

What To Do With Peach Syrup

Peach syrup is a versatile syrup that has a sweet, fruity flavor that goes with so many things! It can be used in some of my favorite drinks like Bellinis or Peach Mimosas or even added to sparkling water and Peach Iced Tea for a refreshing drink.

For something sweet, drizzle it over ice cream, Greek yogurt, pancakes or french toast, or use it as a glaze for cakes and pastries.

If you have any leftover syrup, add a few tablespoons to fruit salads or even an iced matcha latte to add an additional touch of sweetness and flavor (this is especially good if you have fruit that’s tart or not particularly sweet)

This syrup also makes a GREAT simple syrup soak for cakes like my peach cobbler pound cake! Additionally, peach syrup can enhance savory dishes by being incorporated into marinades for meats or used in salad dressings for a fruity twist. Its sweet, peachy flavor makes it a delightful addition to both sweet and savory recipes.

Tips

  • Strain for Smoothness: Once the syrup has thickened, strain it through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth to remove solids for a smooth, pourable syrup.
  • Cool Before Storing: Let the syrup cool to room temperature before transferring it to an airtight container. This prevents condensation, which can dilute the syrup.
  • Experiment with Flavors: Add spices like cinnamon, vanilla, or a touch of ginger during cooking for an extra layer of flavor.
  • Cool Before Storing: Let the syrup cool to room temperature before transferring it to an airtight container. This prevents condensation, which can dilute the syrup.
  • Freeze it! You can also pour the peach syrup into an ice cube tray and freeze it to add additional flavor to any juices, water, or cocktails.

Storing

To store peach syrup, allow it to cool to room temperature after preparation. Transfer your fresh peach syrup to an airtight container, such as a mason jar or a bottle with a tight-sealing lid. Keep the container in the refrigerator, where the syrup will stay fresh for up to two weeks.

For longer storage, you can pour the syrup into an ice cube tray and transfer the frozen cubes to a freezer-safe bag or container, where they will keep for several months.
