can I substitute crescent rolls for puff pastry?

If you're having difficulty finding puff pastry sheets at your supermarket, you can certainly use crescent roll dough. Do keep in mind that you may have to cook the bundles a little longer (according to the package instructions), however, they'll still be pretty tasty!

The puff pastry that I use is Pepperidge Farm's Puff Pastry Sheets. I find them in the freezer section near the frozen pies and ice cream at the Supermarket. This is my go to brand for puff pastry sheet. Of course that is when I don't make my own 🙂

can I use frozen asparagus spears?

For this recipe, I wouldn't recommend frozen asparagus due to the water content. It'll make the puff pastry soggy while heating in the oven. Fresh asparagus is the best way to go for these tarts!

can I substitute bacon for prosciutto?

Yes, you can! However, if using bacon, be sure to cook the bacon prior to putting in the puff pastry dough for baking. I've found that the perfect way to cook bacon is on a baking sheet for 20 minutes at 375° F in the oven. It comes out perfectly crispy. Every. Single. Time.

what do i need to make this recipe?

For these Asparagus and Prosciutto Puff Pastry Bundles, you simply need a baking sheet, parchment paper, and the ingredients listed below. I also recommend using a pastry brush to brush the egg wash on top. However, this is just a recommendation. You can use the back of your spoon to do this as well.

No special equipment or ingredients! Just a baking sheet, parchment paper, and a lot of love! (cheesy but true lol)

    • Absolutely, I would just be sure to cover it with plastic wrap and refrigerate it until you're ready to bake.

I confess I did not make this exactly as written. Havarti instead of cheddar, but the garlic mustard mayo really added to it, and I used less mustard to suit my own taste, and chopped garlic to paste. I topped a salmon fillet with the remaining sauce as a main. Wish I'd had the bagel seasoning, it really added to the appearance.

I saw another recipe that was simpler, but a little extra effort can take good to great. Thanks for the inspiration.

    • I'm so glad that you were able to personalize this to suit your tastebuds! Thanks for the feedback!

This recipe is a real treat. I had a version of it the day before and it tasted good, but I knew it could be better. The addition of the mayo/mustard/thyme spread really took it to a higher level. Also the egg wash made it divine, golden and crunchy. It comes together quickly, a real bonus.
I didn't have the bagel topping, i'm sure that would take it over the top!
    Thank you!

    • I'm so happy that you enjoyed this recipe! We loved the mayo mustard sauce too! Thanks so much for your review!
