honey za’atar chicken with chickpeas

Honey Za’atar Chicken with Chickpeas is such a delicious recipe. It’s full of flavor, is super easy to make, and only takes about a half hour from start to finish! I love this recipe because it’s so easy! Between the beautiful caramelization that the honey gives the chickpeas and the delicious za’atar seasoning, this chicken dish is phenomenal. In addition, the also gives the chicken a beautiful golden hue and a slightly sweet taste when roasted in the oven.

I cannot wait for you to try this recipe. We’re currently in that weird stage between Summer and Fall. I honestly don’t know whether to eat pumpkins or watermelons. So, I’ve been doing my own thing until I see the trees changing. I have SO many fun ideas coming up for Fall. However, until then, this recipe is definitely more than enough to hold us all over.

have your ever tried za’atar?

Have you ever tried za’atar? Za’atar is a Mediterranean spice that is SO delicious. It consists of thyme, coriander, cumin, cumin, sesame seeds, sumac, and salt. Of course I believe there are variations of the spices, however, this is what I’ve known to be in za’atar. (Please correct me if I’m wrong!) I’ve eaten za’atar with so many things, so when I wanted to try it with chicken, it only make sense that I add a little honey!

In the Fall, I typically enjoy a little toast for breakfast and I always love to have za’atar with a little labneh and olive oil and garlic on my toast. When I was cooking one evening for dinner, I was thinking of ways to incorporate za’atar into a chicken dish. I literally pulled together this recipe in about 25 minutes, on a whim, and we could NOT stop eating it.

I went to my pantry and literally grabbed my favorite spice

I went to my pantry and literally grabbed my favorite spices, za’atar being one of them and got to work. A little smoked paprika, salt, pepper, and za’atar goes a long way in the flavor department. This is such a simple chicken dish, but once you try it, you’ll wonder how it got so flavorful with so few ingredients. It’s literally magical.

Also, you should be able to find it at your local grocery store! If you are having difficulty finding it, I highly recommend purchasing here.

how do you make Honey za’atar chicken with chickpeas?

Let’s talk about this recipe. I’ve been looking for something different to do with chicken. I felt a bit stumped as to what to do with chicken. So many chicken recipes have become mundane, so I decided to spice it up. Literally. I added together honey and smoked paprika and grabbed the za’atar. It was AMAZING.

Also, I love chickpeas. So I decided to open a can of chickpeas and swirl it around in the marinade. Then I roasted them with chicken and WOW – it was SO good.

So you start by adding the seasonings to the chicken and then brown on both sides in a skillet. Place chicken on a baking sheet and add the chickpeas along with it. Add roughly chopped red onions. In a small saucer combine honey, garlic cloves, and lemon juice and the pour it all over the chicken, chickpeas, and red onion on the baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes and you’re done! I chose to garnish with a little dill (as in the pictures) but this is totally optional. I just love fresh herbs because they add another layer of flavor to everything!

Also, I highly recommend eating this recipe with labneh, as it goes to well with the flavors featured in this dish. If you don’t have time, you can always purchase labneh in stores as well! (Side note – home made is WAY better!)

Okay, enough rambling, let’s make Honey Za’atar Chicken with Chickpeas!
