Ingredients for cajun shrimp tacos

  • Orange Bell Pepper: Often used in salsas, this adds the perfect touch of heat.
  • Red Onions: The mild flavor complements the seasonings of this recipe.
  • Seasonings: I use a combination of chili powder, cumin, cajun seasoning, salt and pepper.
  • Garlic: I put garlic in as many recipes as I can - because it's amazing!
  • Shrimp: I use jumbo shrimp for this recipe because who doesn't want their shrimp super sized? Ensure they are peeled and deveined before seasoning and cooking.
  • Garnishes: Jalapeños and cilantro for taste, texture and presentation.
  • Corn Tortilla: I go more in depth about why I chose corn tortillas over flour tortillas below.

How to prepare garlic lime ranch sauce

It can be tempting to use store bought condiments but I promise it's not hard to make your own sauce. Not only can you add more of less ingredients based on your preferred taste, but there's less sugar and additives because you know what ingredients were used. Plus, you're using fresh ingredients so it will taste ten times better, guaranteed!

To make the garlic lime ranch sauce, simply combine greek yogurt, mayo, parsley, garlic, chives, dill, salt, onion powder, and garlic powder. Next zest two limes and then squeeze the juice into the sauce. Whisk everything together.  The final result is a light, tangy sauce that complements the spiciness of the tacos.

Are cajun shrimp tacos better with corn or flour tortillas?

The great corn or flour debate! It all boils down to preference. I use corn tortillas for my Cajun Shrimp Tacos because I think that corn tortillas complement the delicate flavor of shrimp and other seafood, like white fish.

Flour tortillas have a more delicate taste than corn tortillas. Due to this, I think flour tortillas are better suited for burritos that are filled with a lot of ingredients. For heartier tacos, I would choose flour tortillas because they are sturdier than corn tortillas.

I like for my tacos to have a light crunch so I do suggest toasting the corn tortillas in this recipe. Just place them in a skillet with a tiny bit of oil for about 1-2 minutes on each side.
