Sometimes combining random ingredients makes the most delicious meals. I mean seriously, apple cider and rosemary? Sounds crazy at first. Then you make it, take your first bite, and you’re like “Whoa! This is darn good!”. Well, at least that was my and my husband’s reaction when we sat down to try this during one of my recipe testing days.
Certain days, you win some. Other days you, not so much. However, this rosemary apple cider chicken was most definitely a success.

we went apple picking last weekend!
If you’re wondering where the inspiration came from for this recipe, I’ll be the first one to tell you. We went apple picking last weekend and to say that I have an enormous amount of apples in my house is an understatement.
I’ve been using the apples for sweet dishes, savory dishes, I mean you name it. Also, stay tuned for more apple recipes. Lol But I was playing around with herbs and apples and how I could incorporate both into a savory dish and got this beauty of a recipe. It’s so perfect and I’m so proud of how it came out.

how to make rosemary apple cider chicken
You’ll need some pretty basic, but seasonal ingredients. Bone-in chicken thighs, fresh rosemary and thyme, apple cider, and honeycrisp apples just to name a few.
To get the cooking process started, simply season the chicken with smoked paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, fresh rosemary and fresh thyme. Of course, salt and pepper too. Sear that up in a hot Calphalon Premier Nonstick Skillet and then add chopped apples and red onions and additional fresh rosemary. Roast everything together in the oven for about 20 minutes and then remove the chicken and apples from the skillet.
Use the jus that’s in the pan and add apple cider, butter, dijon mustard, diced garlic cloves, chicken broth or white wine, and cook all of those together for about 5-8 minutes, until sauce thickens. Pour the sauce over the chicken and you’re done!

what can i serve with this rosemary apple cider chicken?
I would serve this dish with roasted or mashed potatoes. For inspiration, check out this recipe for Brown Butter Garlic and Herb Mashed Potatoes that would be a great pairing with this Rosemary Apple Cider Chicken.
You can also serve this dish with rice or a side salad. I think that sweet potatoes would be amazing as well!

Hi! I serve this recipe with mashed potatoes or mashed sweet potatoes!
Can this be done with a crockpot?
Hi! I haven’t tried this recipe in a crockpot. If you do, please let me know how it goes!
Have you made this with chicken breasts before? Did you change oven temp?
I’ve not make it with chicken breasts before, but I don’t think that the oven temp would need to be changed. Simply monitor cooking times and check for doneness. I hope that this helps, enjoy!
One of the best fall recipes I’ve made in a while! The chicken was tender, flavorful, and such a nice recipe to welcome the season. Thank you!
This was amazing! I served it with salad and a loaf of sourdough. We killed the whole loaf dipping it in the sauce!
Thank you so much!
I would have never thought to incorporate apple cider into a chicken recipe but this works so well! Everybody enjoyed and it was a nice way to tie in seasonal flavors in a different way.
