Equipment

  • Food Processor
  • Baking Sheet

Ingredients

  • 3-4 honeycrisp apples
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • 1 lemon, squeezed/juiced
  • 4 tbsps butter
  • 1 egg

Crust

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • ½ cup butter, cold
  • 2 tbsps sugar
  • Pinch of kosher salt
  • 4-5 tbsps water, ice cold
  • Coarse sugar, optional

Instructions

  • Combine flour, butter, sugar, and salt in a food processor and pulse until pea-sized crumbles form. Slowly begin to pour in ice cold water until a rough dough begins to form. Place dough on a well floured work surface and press together until the crumbles begin to stick together and form the dough for the pie crust. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.*
  • Thinly slice apples. Add to a bowl and squeeze lemon juice on top. Combine sugar and cinnamon and nutmeg in a small bowl, whisk together, and sprinkle on top of apples, ensuring all apples are coated.
  • Preheat. oven to 400 degrees F. Roll dough out onto a well floured work surface. Using a rolling pin, roll dough out into a large square, about 12x12. Place dough on a parchment lined baking sheet. Place apples on top of crust in sets of 4, alternating directions (you do not have to do this, you can simply place the apples on top of the crust in any way that you like!). Leave about 1 inch around the perimeter of the galette. This will make it so that you can fold the dough on top of the apples.
  • Cut 4 tbsps of butter into cubes and place on top of the apples. Fold the dough over the apples.
  • Beat an egg and brush the dough with the egg. Place coarse sugar on top of the egg, optional. Bake for 20-25 minutes, once dough is golden and flaky and apples have softened.
  • Enjoy with ice cream or caramel on top - or both!
