Equipment

  • Cocktail Shaker
  • Jigger
  • Shot Glasses

Ingredients

Cocoa Powder Rim (optional)

  • 2 tbsp Cream Cheese Icing
  • 1 tbsp Cocoa Powder , or white sugar

Chocolate Cake Shot

  • 1.5 oz Whipped Cream Vodka , or Vanilla Vodka
  • 1.5 oz Hazelnut Liqueur
  • ½ oz Heavy Cream
  • Whipped Cream , for garnish

Instructions

  • (optional first step) Make the cocoa powder rim: dip the rim of the shot glasses into cream cheese icing and then dip into cocoa powder. Tap off any excess cocoa powder and set aside.
  • Add vodka, hazelnut liqueur, and cream to a cocktail shaker. Add ice and shake for 10-15 seconds.
  • Pour into shot glasses and garnish with a little whipped cream and a dash of cocoa powder (optional).

Notes

Substitutions
  • However, if you can't find whipped cream vodka, I recommend using Smirnoff's Salted Caramel Vodka, Vanilla Vodka, or Cake Vodka. If you can't find any of these, use regular vodka.
  • If you don't have heavy cream, you can omit this ingredient, the shots will taste delicious either way! Heavy simply smooths out the shot and lessens the taste of the alcohol.
  • If you don't have a cocktail shaker, you can use a mason jar with a lid or any cup with a lid. Don't have a jigger either? No problem! You can use a shot glass to measure the ingredients. One average size shot glass is 1.5 ounces so it's an easy replacement/substitute for a jigger.
Tips
  • Add the ice to the shots last so that the ice doesn't melt and dilute the shot.
  • If dipping the rim of the glass into cocoa powder, be sure to use a shallow plate or bowl.
  • Turn these into a german chocolate cake shot and use coconut rum instead of vodka.
  • I recommend placing the shot glasses into the refrigerator or freezer for about 20 minutes prior to making the shots. This makes the shots nice and cold.
  • If the cocoa powder rim is too chocolatey, you can make a sugar rim using white sugar instead.
