Equipment

  • 2 Mixing Bowls

Ingredients

  • 1 ¼ cup All-Purpose Flour
  • ½ cup Salted Butter , melted
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar
  • ½ cup Cocoa Powder
  • 6 tbsps Milk (add more if you prefer a looser textured batter)
  • ¼ tsp Kosher Salt
  • ½ cup Dark Chocolate Chips
  • ½ cup Chocolate Chunks , optional

Edible Brownie Batter using Box Mix

  • 1 box Brownie Mix (use a brownie mix without chocolate chips)
  • ½ cup Salted Butter , melted
  • 6-8 tbsps Milk (add more if you prefer a looser textured batter)
  • ½ cup Dark Chocolate Chips
  • ½ cup Chocolate Chunks , optional

Instructions

  • Add flour to a bowl and microwave for one minute.
  • In a separate bowl, combine melted butter and brown sugar. Whisk together for one minutes and then add vanilla extract.
  • Add heat treated flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Fold together until all patches of flour are gone and batter is smooth.
  • Add 6 tbsps of milk and chocolate chips and chocolate chunks. Add more milk if you prefer your brownie batter to be a bit looser in texture. (if adding additional toppings/additional mix-ins fold into the batter during this step)

How to make Edible Brownie Batter using Box Mix

  • Microwave the brownie batter for one minute, then add melted butter, milk, and chocolate chips and chocolate chunks.

Notes

Tips

  • If you prefer a looser or thicker batter, use more/less milk. I suggested 6 tbsps for a thick batter, however, use 8-10 tbsps if you prefer a more looser texture or keep adding until you get the desired consistency.
  • Use a mix of chocolate chips and peanut butter chips in your edible brownie batter for a super chocolatey treat! Mixing the chocolates are my guilty pleasure!
  • If you love this edible brownie batter recipe, you'll love this edible cookie dough recipe too!
  • Pro tip: For an easy but decadent dessert, eat brownie batter with bowl of ice cream - it's SO good!

Substitutions

For more takes on edible versions of this brownie batter, see below!

Dairy Free

To make this recipe dairy free, you can use vegan butter and any plant-based milk of your choice like almond milk or coconut milk.

Vegan

Make this brownie mix vegan by using vegan butter or coconut oil, plant-based milk, and you favorite vegan chocolate.

Gluten-Free

For a gluten free brownie mix, use almond flour or 1-to-1 baking flour.

Natural Sweeteners

If you'd like to use a natural sweetener, try maple syrup instead of brown sugar. Start with 3 tablespoons and increased based on your desired taste. You can also try using cacao powder instead of cocoa powder for a healthier version! Of note, cacao powder is quite bitter so adjust accordingly!

Make it healthy!

Add chocolate protein powder in place of cocoa powder along with coconut oil in place of butter and maple syrup in place of brown sugar. That's a whole new recipe, but I really want to show you that you can customize this recipe and incorporate something sweet and fun into your daily life!
